The writer's bench is an important symbol due to its historical function as a place where writers could meet each other and exchange important information. The first writer's bench was formed in 1972 in Manhatten, another one followed in 1975 close to the Bronx subway station. As time passed, it evolved from being a great place for piecewatching to being a popular place for writers from allover the city,
Writers Bench Company derived its name from this place of tremendous importance to the writers in NYC, especially the one established on 149 Street.
They seek to unify and strengthen the community by creating clothing that is saturated with reerences to graffiti history and culture.
