adidas EQUIPMENT 2025

When the first adidas Equipment collection was released in 1991, it eclipsed everything else. The range of footwear and apparel was the best on the market at the time. To this day, collectors highly prize the original models from 1991 or 1993. We are delighted that adidas also knows how to utilize the charisma of adidas Equipment repeatedly. For the 30th anniversary of adidas Equipment in 2021, there was the "Life Needs Equipment" campaign from adidas Consortium. This also included two models that had never existed before. The adidas Equipment Prototype is a model from the adidas archive and fits in perfectly with the existing models. The other model was the adidas Equipment CSG, a hybrid of the Cushion, Support and Guidance models.

In 2025, fans and lovers of adidas Equipment will once again have the opportunity to get many items of clothing as well as two sneakers from us.

The adidas Equipment Cushion 93 with the "Equipment Green" colorway is already available. The same model with "Equipment Blue" colorway will be released in April.

Green, blue, and red are the colors for apparel like adidas Equipment sweatshirts, adidas Equipment hoodies, track jackets, sweatpants, and adidas Equipment t-shirts.

The adidas Equipment 2025 collection is so huge that it will be split into two drops. The first adidas Equipment release will take place on January 31, 2025, and the second on April 1, 2025. Of course, you can get the complete adidas Equipment collection including sneakers, apparel and accessories at Overkill.

adidas EQUIPMENT - FROM IDEA TO REALITY

The iconic adidas Equipment series may not be celebrating a milestone anniversary in 2025, but we are still extremely excited about its return. Anyone who knows Overkill a little better knows that we have many fans of the adidas Equipment range. First and foremost our boss Marc, who is nicknamed Mr. Equipment for a reason. Overkill was allowed to use various sneaker models from the Equipment series as the basis for our collaborations with adidas. It is therefore not surprising that Overkill is the exclusive partner of adidas to distribute the sneakers of the adidas Equipment Collection 2025 exclusively in Europe.

adidas EQUIPMENT - FOCUS ON THE ESSENTIALS

At the end of the 1980s, the global brand adidas was experiencing major financial difficulties. Although production took place almost entirely in Asia and was therefore quite cheap, the family business had to open up to investors. When Horst Dassler, Adi Dassler's son, died in 1987, his sisters sold the company. From 1990 onwards, adidas was no longer in the hands of the Dassler family and lost first place among sporting goods manufacturers to Nike. As you can read, these were hard times for adidas, but rescue was at hand.

Peter Moore and Rob Strasser both worked for the competitor Nike but left in 1987 after a dispute with the owner Phil Knight. Shortly afterwards, the two of them joined adidas as consultants and what followed can be found in every book on sneaker history today.

Peter Moore was a graphic designer and is responsible for the design of the Nike Dunk, the Air Jordan 1, the Air Jordan Wing logo, and the Jumpman, among others. So this brilliant guy is now working for adidas and he started implementing his ideas straight away. With Rob Strasser as head of marketing, the two succeeded in realizing the ideas that they had already been able to implement at the competitor at adidas and in bringing the brand back to its former strength. The 80s were characterized by over-consumption, bright colors and loud noise. This was also the case at adidas; absurd articles with no connection to a sport or the brand were a stone in Moore's shoes.

So in the early 1990s, the two created adidas Equipment, a collection without any frills. In the spirit of company founder Adi Dassler and according to his philosophy, the aim was to create silhouettes that were simple, functional, and performance-oriented. adidas Equipment, as the name suggests, offered the right shoes and clothing for almost every sport. Football, volleyball, basketball, running, outdoor - adidas had the right equipment.

adidas Equipment - Everything that is essential and nothing that is not.

The newly created collection of adidas sneakers and matching clothing also required a new logo. Of course, adidas was still a household name to most people, but it needed more to herald a real new beginning. As we have already learned, Peter Moore was a graphic designer and highly talented artist. The Trefoil, adidas' trademark at the time, did not fit the new items. Moore had never understood why the legendary three stripes and the adidas wordmark logo had never been combined. The idea for the new logo came to him when he saw the lateral side of a tennis shoe model. Moore noticed that the stripes were not all the same length, which he liked. The three-striped logo, including the word mark adidas Equipment, was born. Without the Equipment addition, it also became the logo for performance products. However, Peter Moore and Rob Strasser were not yet ready to put adidas back on the road to success. adidas Equipment was undoubtedly a great success for the brand, but mainly in Europe. However, it was important to be successful in the biggest market and that was the USA. So the idea came up to re-release adidas shoes from the past at regular intervals. From 1991, models such as the Stan Smith, Gazelle, Country, Superstar and Samba were released under the name adidas Originals and the Trefoil logo. Since then, black and the three-striped logo have stood for adidas Performance, while the classic adidas blue and the Trefoil for lifestyle sneakers have stood for adidas Originals.

adidas EQUIPMENT SNEAKERS

An important part of adidas Equipment are of course the shoes from the collection. Peter Moore had already gained experience in this field and presented his first designs to the adidas managers. According to Moore, not everyone at adidas understood his approach, but they made a smart decision. Peter Moore was introduced to Jacques Chassaing, the head designer of adidas France. As you remember, Jacques was the designer of the entire four-digit ZX series and the adidas Forum, among other things. Peter Moore was not a shoemaker like Jacques, who had mastered all the processes involved in making shoes. Moore didn't want to explain his job to Chassaing either, he had the greatest respect for the Frenchman. Jacques Chassaing and his team developed real shoes from Peter Moore's designs. The two joined forces to bring something outstanding to life.

To emphasize the idea of the necessity, the colors were first removed from the designs. The adidas Equipment color palette was reduced to: black, white, grey and a special color called "Equipment Green". Green was a color that was rarely used at the time. Moore's goal was to have a unique color, like the red of Coca-Cola. The Equipment Green in combination with the other colors worked perfectly and it was used on almost all shoes and clothing. It is still the characteristic color of the adidas Equipment series today and was seen in all previous retro collections.

With the adidas Equipment sneakers, we are talking about the 1st series from 1991 and the 2nd series from 1993. From the 2nd series onwards, the shoe models were available in green as well as red or blue as a contrasting color to white and grey.

The adidas EQT running sneakers were designed for different types of runners. Similar to the 4-digit ZX models, these were: CUSHION, GUIDANCE and SUPPORT

The models of the 1st adidas Equipment series included: Running Support, Running Cushion, Running Guidance and Racing.

Other models that belonged to the adidas Equipment collection in 1991 were: Tennis Hard Court Lo, Tennis Clay Court Lo, Tennis Clay Court Mid, Basketball Hi, Basketball Mid, Squash Lo, Squash Mid, Volleyball Hi, Volleyball Lo, Soccer Soft Ground, Turf, Adventure Hi, Adventure Lo, Adventure Mid, Trekker and Golf.

Two years later, adidas Equipment shoes specifically for athletics sports such as javelin, rugby, sprint, high jump, long jump, fencing, weightlifting, wrestling, boxing, hammer & discus, the adidas Equipment Racewalk, new models for tennis, basketball and volleyball followed. As you can see, the company didn't just cut corners, it went all out and it is safe to say that adidas Equipment saved the company from ruin. The products were well thought out and manufactured to a high quality.

The goal of adidas Equipment was simple and consistent: to make the best products for sports. Each product is designed to fulfill the essential needs of athletes. The design principle is "form follows function" - the look of a product is determined by its function. Every sport has its specific requirements, and adidas Equipment fulfills these with a wide range of innovative functions.

THE ESSENTIALS OF adidas EQUIPMENT

The adidas Torsion system
One of the most important technologies of adidas Equipment was the Torsion system in the soles. adidas Torsion was already used in the 4-digit ZX series and was now also essential for adidas Equipment. All sneaker models were equipped with the Torsion system because it was versatile and useful in almost every sport. adidas Torsion allows the foot to move freely and naturally and prevents the risk of injury by controlling the torsional movement.

The three adidas straps
The three stripes have adorned adidas shoes since the 1950s. The straps enclose the midfoot from both sides, ensuring an excellent fit and stability. The three adidas stripes are a trademark with a high recognition value.

The perfect cushioning
Comfort and cushioning are the most important requirements of a shoe for most sports. All adidas Equipment shoes have excellent cushioning properties. Important components of the soles of adidas Equipment sneakers are Soft Cell, a PU midsole and the right sole design for every sport.
