The goal was to develop a watch which should combine special features. It should be water resistant, the battery life should last at least 10 years and it should be shockproof. Hence the name G-Shock, which stands for Gravitational Shock. The watch has already sold over 100,000,000 units, including collaborations and collectibles from BAPE, Stussy and Medicom Toy.
